Lindsay Lohan starts serving her sentence
Lindsay Lohan starts serving her sentence. Actress Lindsay Lohan began a sentence for jewelry theft under house arrest on Thursday, but is likely to serve only about 35 days of her four month term, officials said.
Lohan, 24, turned up at a Los Angeles jail at 5 a.m. on Thursday, was deemed eligible for home confinement, fitted with an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet and released to her home within an hour, Los Angeles Sheriff's department spokesman Steve Whitmore said.
"Ms. Lohan will be under the supervision of the sheriff's department and her release date is expected to be around June 29," Whitmore said. "She will serve about 35 days on home detention."
The "Mean Girls" actress was sentenced two weeks ago to four months jail and 480 hours community service after pleading no contest to stealing a $2,500 gold necklace from a store in January.
It was not immediately clear how much time she would be confined to house arrest. But Whitmore said earlier this month she would likely serve 16-17 days at home under programs for nonviolent offenders, good behavior and because of overcrowding in the city's jails.
Lohan has already started her community service at a women's jail.
Lohan has been in and out of jail and drug and alcohol rehab for the past four years following a 2007 arrest for drunken driving and cocaine possession.
Her troubles have derailed her once promising Hollywood career, but she was cast in April in an upcoming movie about New York crime boss John Gotti, alongside actors Al Pacino and John Travolta.

It was revealed today that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, writer of Spider Man: Turn Off The Dark, is to bring a new adaptation of King's classic horror novel to the big screen.
When asked for his thoughts on the project, the 63-year-old author expressed doubt that Brian De Palma's 1976 flick could be outdone, but appeared excited by the prospect of seeing Lohan star.
He told Entertainment Weekly: "I've heard rumblings about a Carrie remake...who knows if it will happen?
"The real question is why, when the original was so good? I mean, not Casablanca, or anything, but a really good horror-suspense film, much better than the book. Although Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White… hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast."
King also named his dream directors for the Carrie remake, stating: "I guess I could get behind it if they turned the project over to one of the Davids - Lynch or Cronenberg."

The troubled actress made the allegations on social networking website Twitter, in posts which have since been removed. She even posted a picture of the man she claims has been following her around and asked fans to help her get her through this tough time.
"This is the freemason stalker that has been threatening to kill me- while he is TRESPASSING! I'm actually scared now," she wrote.
"all my fans, my supporters, please stand by me. g-d bless xxL (sic)."
Lindsay apparently has text messages and video footage of the man behaving suspiciously. According to website TMZ, she has worried about his seeming obsession with her for four years.
He reportedly leaves her strange presents and continually drives past her home, and has even managed to get hold of her cell phone number.
"We're also told he's been sending her 'insane' text messages for the past few years," reports the gossip site. "She wants the cops to help keep the mystery man away ASAP."
Lindsay has had a spate of personal problems recently. She spent time in rehab and has been sentenced to jail for a probation violation linked to her no contest plea after she was accused of stealing a necklace.
Despite her issues she has still been seen out partying, attending the DeLeon Tequila anniversary party at Los Angeles' Chateau Marmont on Sunday. While there she was spotted partying with goth rocker Marilyn Manson, although there are claims she was asked to leave as she wasn't actually invited.
The 24-year-old's representative has dismissed the report, but chief executive officer of DeLon Tequila told New York Post: "Lindsay was not invited ... I advised Chateau management she wasn't invited and that it wasn't a good idea for her to be there, given her history."
On the same night Lindsay was involved in a fracas at Paul & Andre Hollywood nightclub when a woman tried to pose for a photograph with her. The actress allegedly grabbed the woman's wrist to stop her, while someone with the star is accused to taking the camera and hurling into an ice bucket.
"We didn't press charges because we thought it was funny at first," a source told RadarOnline.
"Lindsay appeared to be 'belligerently drunk. She and her people were doing shots of something all night. She looked like she was falling all over the place. She was being stupid."

Britney Spears is facing a lawsuit by former running buddy Sam Lutfi to get the results of a test done three years ago. Lutfi is accusing mom Lynne Spears of this. In her book,she alleged he “tried to drug Britney into a coma.”
A parking valet at a swanky Miami hotel filed suit against the mother of Miami Heat forward LeBron James for damages. Gloria James faces these charges in the incident.
Former prosecutor Nancy Grace was recently sued for breach of contract by a former colleague. The colleague claims the two of them developed the concept for “Nancy Grace: America’s Missing” that made Grace a star.
Volcom, a California-based company, is suing rapper Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, claiming that Roc Nation’s logo constitutes trademark infringement on Volcom’s logo. A Roc Nation artist, meanwhile, was charged with attempted murder and Jay-Z, a part-owner of the New Jersey Nets, was fined by the NBA.
Talk about messy. ShamWow pitch guy Vince Shlomi has been sued by a former assistant who claims he stalked and groped her and asked her to do this for him.
A marriage counseling firm in Pennsylvania reportedly shocked the “Kate Plus 8” star by filing a lawsuit against her. She says she never sought counseling; the bill that wasn’t paid was for ex-husband Jon Gosselin’s life coaching sessions.
A dispute over jewels is pitting a German insurer against celebutante Paris Hilton. Hilton (she has a boyfriend) reportedly says she no longer has the jewelry.
